Glacier caves, Iceland

The remarkable glacier caves of Iceland have been formed by melting of ice due to geothermal activity (Iceland is richer in geothermal activity than any other nation) other glacial caves are brought on by glacial movement and water flow. Glacier caves are occasionally named (incorrectly) "ice cave" (which is in fact caves, the 1-year ice are integrated).
Some of the hidden glacial caves and tiny, whilst other caves attain up to many kilometers, like the one in Vatnajökull, which is nearly three km long!
In the summer season glacier caves are potentially quite unsafe, in the past some have abruptly collapsed killing guests.
It is much better to check out in the winter when the temperatures to be low sufficient safe, and always use a local guide are
